Front Line Command

by Robert Summers

On June 30, 1862, Confederate President Jefferson Davis joined his army's commanders, Generals Robert E. Lee, James Longstreet and A.P. Hill to observe the battle of Glendale, Virginia. Once the battle commenced, a Federal battery began firing artillery shells into the area occupied by the Confederate high command, whereupon Gen. Hill ordered his superiors to leave.
