Crossing Lick Creek

In the early morning hours of February 16, 1862, in bitterly cold weather, Colonel Nathan Bedford Forrest led over fifteen hundred men across Lick Creek in an escape from Fort Donelson. Meanwhile, over 11,000 confederate troops who stayed behind were surrendering to General Grant's forces.
