"Preservation Pioneer"

by Don Breckon
The Talyllyn Railway in Mid Wales is well known by railway enthusiasts worldwide as the pioneer of all railway preservation. This 2' 3" gauge line was built in 1865 to convey slate from the quarries at Bryneglwys to the main line Cambrian Coast Railway at Towyn. The Talyllyn is unique in the field of railway preservation in that it posesses both it's original locomotives and it's complete compliment of original passenger rolling stock, all of which are still in use today.
